The Stars My Destination, Animated

Image
I have had this posted for some time. Now an acquaintance has done an animation of this, he insisted that I credit the program, Quickdraw. Watch this stunning short cartoon of my version of Gully Foyle hitting the distress signals on board the shattered spaceship Nomad- https://file.aiquickdraw.com/p/f813894f-2626-4602-b8e3-f38787c87330.mp4   I am grateful to https://www.deviantart.com/mate0-art for this delightful and  unexpected gift, he is the one who originally colored my pencil drawing of the cruelly abandoned sailor on board the war destroyed ship. Rococo Crystal Pitcher With Flowers

 c. 1987.   Original drawing. I must have copied this pitcher from some old painting, I've never seen such spectacular glass work in my life. I sure didn't come up with this on my own.

Invasion!

This is a Burmese Brown Python, a destructive and deadly snake. Florida is overrun with these, they're known to kill and eat alligators once they reach the required size. They have either no or very few natural enemies here, and they are a curse on the Everglades. Their presence has led to severe declines in native mammal populations, including raccoons, opossums, bobcats, and rabbits, as well as being hell on the bird population. This is the second one I've seen in Texas. My sister took this picture, her house is adjacent to one of our swamps. I got there too late with my snake wrangling equipment to catch the li'l darling, and the wildlife people are only interested in dangerous animals if they can get headlines out of them. Those overpaid clowns are as useful as a chocolate teapot. When I eventually catch this guy I'm going to take it to their office and throw it across the counter. Who doesn't do snakes now, be-yotches ? This happy rascal appears to b...

Mayday, 12 Years On

It should be noted that there is now no intelligentsia that is not in some sense "Left".  Perhaps the last right wing intellectual was T.E.Lawrence.  Since about 1930 everyone describable as an "intellectual" has lived in a state of chronic discontent with the existing order.  Necessarily so, because society as it was constituted had no room for him.  In an Empire that was simply stagnant, neither being developed nor falling to pieces, and in an England ruled by people who chief asset was their stupidity, to be 'clever' was to be suspect.  If you had the kind of brain that could understand the poems of T.S.Eliot or the theories of Karl Marx, the higher-ups would see to it that you were kept out of any important job.  The intellectuals could find a function for themselves only in the literary reviews and the left-wing political parties.      The mentality of the English left-wing intelligentsia can be studied in half a dozen weekly...
