La Bête Du Gévaudan

Image
In 1764 something began hunting and killing humans in the Gevaudan, now the department of Lozere.  There were an estimated 210 attacks, with 113 dead and about 49 injured.  One will note the ratio of dead to wounded.  About 98 of those killed were eaten.  This statue of Marie-Jeanne Valet by Philip Kaeppelin sums up the whole thing quite nicely. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/marie-jeanne-valet-vs-the-beast-of-gevaudan It did not look like this. Or this. And it sure did not look like this terrifying image from the movie Brotherhood of the Wolf, which was most enjoyable, entertaining, and historically accurate with the general look of the whole thing. Some of the pictures drawn at the time do resemble this thing. See what I mean? This is what the beast looked like.  No, perhaps not.  It is now thought that the beast was a lion, which would explain a lot.  It could have escaped from a circus or private zoo.

The Hybrid! Editors Are Working For YOU

Image
The beginning of another busy day at the offices of Hybrid!, the cutting edge online artist's co-op that actually cares about standards and some kind of decency, in spite of the rabbit's complete lack of work ethics or morality.  Andrew the Bee encourages him in his J. Jonah Jameson delusion because it keeps him out of the way.  In the hall an aspiring artist grasps her submissions, bundled in hope and praying for an acceptance, unaware that Billy is starting to clutch at straws and is beginning to speak lightly of artwork that is banned even in San Francisco and Tijuana. Busy as a bee is just an expression in this office.  As Screwtape would say, Andy's job is not putting ideas into the bunny's head but keeping them out. https://hybridfabulousfurryfun.blogspot.com/ How it's done, a rare glimpse at the inception of comic excellence.  Yes, Hybrid! is the thinking ma... animal's go-to magazine for all your anthro artwork needs! https://www

Injustice

Clay Lavern Shaw Managing director of the New Orleans Trade Mart, Clay was a highly decorated officer in WWII, receiving the U. S. Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star, the French made him a Knight of the Order of Merit and gave him the Croix de Guerre, and the Belgians made him a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Crown of Belgium.   Clay was accused of masterminding the Kennedy assassination, and was financially ruined by District Attorney Jim Garrison, a man who was discharged during the war as mentally unstable and who on one occasion molested a young boy at a prestigious club in New Orleans.  Oliver Stone slandered him very heavily in a piece of shit movie called JFK, Shaw was portrayed by the excellent actor Tommy Lee Jones. Tommy Lee Jones as Clay Shaw.  Jones is a great actor but his performance was a lie designed to make an unstable director's version of the horrible event look something like the truth, the movie is a paranoid falsehood from beginning t

My Old Job

This is a group of Marines from 1st Platoon, A Company, Marine Barracks 8th and I, c. 1980, First Lt. John Olsen commanding.  This was a show put on by the Corps where the luckless enlisted men were dressed in Hollywood extra outfits and sent around to schools and political events, we are wearing uniforms from America's various wars up to that point.  The C.S.A. is not represented, all of the Marine officers deserted to the South so they are still touchy on that point.  We were accompanied by members of the Drum and Bugle Corps while a narrator read the history of that flag as we would walk out onto the stage, usually a basketball court.  We had to black the soles of our cleated shoes, they really did check for that.  The Marine fourth from the left wearing the Nutcracker costume with a tall black leather shako is your's truly.  I am portraying a Marine from the War of 1812, which we lost until Andrew Jackson got involved after the war was over, we called that

A New Neighbor

Image
So the new guy brought dinner over last night.  We had a few drinks and he kept asking me sorta weird stuff like, did I have any close relatives?  He left about midnight and it was so dark out that all I could see was his smile as he said goodbye. I guess I'll be seeing him around.

None so mute who cannot speak, None so cruel that sport a beak. By all means, beg and pray - Your hopes are wasted anyway. Pray in the left hand, shit in the right - And guess which one will still be light. @sdavis.art on Instagram
