Squarriors

Image
Squarriors, 2014.  Story by Ash Macko, art by Ashley Witter. Following a catastrophe, the awakened squirrels must learn to fight. Men, the Creators, are no more. The Flash happened and the animals could talk and form societies.  Rival societies. And competing groups mean war. ...and war means bloodshed and death. Cruelty abounds. The Tin Kin compound is a wrecked train, poor in resources but a very strong position. But the Maw and the Amoni is determined on eradicating the Tin Kin. Assassins... ...ferocious allies... ...wreckage and decay...    ...and the Code of Blood has ensured a repeat of all that went before. Where there were 3, soon there will be 2. As the Creators knew for millennia, cats are difficult allies at best. The battle begins. Squarriors, Devil's Due Comics Squirrels are just weird.

This Rabbit Is Very Tense!

Image
Having been offered the wooden sword, Flamma turned it down as long as there are still rabbits held in slavery.  He has no particular problem with slavery, is it not the natural order?  But slave rabbits bother him.  He has killed enough of them to work on his increasing guilt about his time in the arena.   Rabbits are usually happy and very nice people.  That is why so many fall victim to New Rome.  What the wolves do not realize is that this bunny has lost all sense of proportion, all empathy to others.  The Wolf wants Flamma in the army.  He does not realize what will happen if the bloody bunny obtains true power.  No one does. But why not?

Wednesday I had to go to the Walmart pharmacy to get my mom her meds.  As I was waiting behind a very old man who was wearing a cap that said Marines on it, I noticed all this greenish liquid all over the floor.  I was wearing my superboots so I touched a toe in this and it was still very wet.  The old man was having trouble, and suddenly he revealed this object the size of a soccer ball.  It was wet and slime encrusted, the same color as the stuff on the floor.  Although I have never seen one, I knew it was his colostomy bag.  That meant that he had been standing in line with that thing dripping, and did nothing about it.  One of the clerks was dabbing at him with a paper towel, while he was going on and on about how he had changed it right before he came up to the store.  I doubt he had and I decided he was senile.  God, how awful.  I felt bad for him, and I wondered when he was at the Chosin Resevoir whether he ever thought that he would end up like this.  No, of co

Maestro

Maestro , from Illogic Studios and Bloom Pitctures, 2019. The music is ‘Squilla il bronzo del dio... Guerra, guerra’, the great chorus from Vincenzo Bellini’s opera Norma. https://youtu.be/fT-h6BDiV50 And now to anger - To rage, to battle, to their death! Raise your voices, o brave men, In the hymn of battle! To battle! to battle! In the forest of Gaul Brave warriors outnumber the trees. As hungry wolves fall upon the flock, We shall strike at the soldiers of Rome. Blood! Blood! The Gallic axes Are bathed in the blood of the Roman... Over the impure waters of the Liguri It gushes with deathly sound. Slaughter, extermination and vengeance Already begin and will soon be fulfilled. Like grain mowed down by the sickle, The Roman legions shall fall. With proud wings clipped with talons drawn, Behold the mighty eagle on the ground! And God will come on the rays of the sun To behold the triumph of his men. Norma premiered at La Scala in Milan on 26 December 1831.  It was received with

Luke 8:7

This is published by the Youth Ambassadors out of Kansas City.  Art by Davey Grant.  These are stories told by children who have lived them. There is no reason for anyone in the United States to go hungry. Yet we have hunger. Many children grow up with absent or worthless parents.  Political types blame this on the rest of us instead of demanding self responsibility.  We have to have a license to drive, to get married, to own a dog.  There is no license to raise children and then neglect them.  Crime and wilful ignorance is a tax on the law abiding.   But poverty does not excuse risking the lives of others to steal anything.  It is more than hinted here that the rabbit is the natural prey of the carnivorous fox.  Blaming cops for dealing with violent criminals is a very old and very transparent game. Society has no use for murderers.  Your sad story is your problem, and not ours.  But deliberately not paying your bills is a character flaw with no excuse.  You took out a studen

Loathsome Cinematic Murderers, Part One, Maybe

Peter Lorre, M.  1931, UFA Studios.  d) Fritz Lang.  My vote for best portrayal of a child murderer die aller zietung. Leslie Banks as General Zaroff in The Most Dangerous Game.  A pathetic adaption of one of the greatest action stories every written, this was filmed at night on the King Kong set, which explains the inexplicable appearance of Fay Wray in the movie.  There is no woman in the story, and what kills this off is Joel McCrae as Sanger Rainsford, if that is his name in this wretched movie.  But Leslie hits it out of the park as the bored Russian autocrat who at least gives his prey a fighting chance.  His all black clothing and high boots give him more than a touch of what a really up to the minute Cossack out killing shipwrecked strangers for fun should strive to look like.  Tres Fasciste!   James Cagney as the mother fixated psychopath Cody Jarrett in White Heat, 1949.  d) Raoul Walsh. Although I give him the big hand for the tap dance in
