Despair Is A Sin, Poverty A Character Flaw

Image
In theory things will probably get better, yet- The glass is falling, hour by hour, The glass will fall forever. But if you break the bloody glass You won't hold up the weather.* The glass has fallen all my life, I know it falls forever But if you cannot rake it in, it's useless being clever. Born with razor claws, or a wicked tusk? You're still outgunned by Elon Musk!   *Poem quote from Bagpipe Music , Louis MacNeice.  1938.

A Hero For Our Time

Although the world knows him only as a mild mannered criminally insane talking rabbit, Billy is The Enabler, scourge of self discipline and responsibility. Remember this, kids, it's not your fault!

The Escape From Efrafa

Image
“You dirty little beast,” said Woundwort. “I hear you’ve attacked one of the Council police and broken his leg. We’ll settle with you here. There’s no need to take you back to Efrafa.” “You crack-brained slave-driver,” answered Bigwig. “I’d like to see you try.” “All right,” said Woundwort, “that’s enough. Who have we got? Vervain, Campion, put him down. The rest of you, start getting these does back to the warren. The prisoner you can leave to me.” “Frith sees you!” cried Bigwig. “You’re not fit to be called a rabbit! May Frith blast you and your foul Owsla full of bullies!” At that instant a dazzling claw of lightning streaked down the length of the sky. The hedge and the distant trees seemed to leap forward in the brilliance of the flash. Immediately upon it came the thunder: a high, tearing noise, as though some huge thing were being ripped to pieces close above, which deepened and turned to enormous blows of dissolution. Then the rain fell like a waterfall. In a

The Shadow Strikes Again, only this time with some fine tuning from that Maine master, Andibi. https://www.deviantart.com/andibi I am lucky that I know someone who can make a bad drawing somewhat better. Very lucky.

Guilt And Dredd!

I can't find the artist, writer or issue number of this.  It amazes me that Dredd is still going strong after all these years.  It also amazes me that someone hasn't killed the fascist prick yet.

This Placid, Pleasant Town

Today I went up to Walmart's gas station to buy a pack of cheap cigarettes.  One walks between rows of shelves up to the glassed in booth, there you pay.  Lot's of male enhancement pills and faux amphetamines are displayed for the impulse buyer who doesn't know how to score the real thing off the street.  This place is always busy, but today there was only one man waiting at the booth in front of me.  The clerk is a large black man, probably over 50, who I like and enjoy talking to.  He is exceptionally courteous and that sort of thing brings out the best in my public behavior.  I heard him tell the waiting customer that he had to close for a few minutes for shift change, which is mostly counting the money in the till.  The man in front of me was probably in his mid to late thirties, he was wearing knee length shorts and a t shirt.  This left a lot of skin to display his homemade tattoos.  On the back of his right calf he had a 3 leaf shamrock outline with SS

Saying Goodbye Sucks

Mittens.    Mittens.    Mittens and Daisy.   Mittens and Muffins. The three that went to San Antonio. In November I lost 4 cats in 3 days to a virulent disease.  I was raising  8 kittens, of two different litters, and I had vaccinated the younger 4.  To save money I did not get the procedure for the older 4, they never left my room so I thought I had time.  This picture shows all 4 of the second litter.  The black and white kitten at the top of this heap is the only one of all of them I have left.  His name is Chess, I didn't want to name the newer batch as I was going to send them to be adopted in San Antonio and I was already head over heels in love with them.  Chess got his name because of his black and white coloration, he was the most aggressive of the younger batch and I started calling him that because he was always in my lap or otherwise being a pest.  A neighbor lady asked if she could have him, I agreed but I think she got worried as to whether she could care

Reino de Mictlán

From Book III of the Florentine Codex : You have brought yourself to the place of mystery, the place of the unfleshed, the place where there is arriving, the place with no smoke hole, the place with no fireplace. No longer will you make your way back, your return. No more will you consider your present, your past. For a little while you have gone leaving orphans, you have gone leaving people, your children, your grandchildren. I remember that they had in a plaza, where there were some shrines, so many places of dead skulls, which could be counted, according to the concert as they were set, that when they appeared they would be more than one hundred thousand; and I say again about one hundred thousand. And in another part of the square were as many rows of bones without meat, bones of dead, that could not be counted; and they had in many beams many heads hanging from one part to another. And keeping those bones and skulls were three priests, who, as we understood, were in
