What A Great Guy!

Image
Angelo Polizano, Humanist and friend of the de'Medici brothers who were running Florence, Lorenzo and Guiliano.  Here he is pictured as tutor to young Giulio, son of Guiliano.   Lorenzo by Verrochio. Giuliano by Verrochio. 26 April 1478 Upon the elevation of the host at high mass in the Duomo the Pazzi made their move.  Bernardo Baroncelli  thrusts a knife into the chest of Giuliano, crying out, "Here, Traitor"!  while Francesco Pazzi repeatedly stabbed him.  Two of the assassins were priests, as the pope was in on the whole thing.  The priests went for Lorenzo, who dodged a knife thrust which cut his neck.  At this point Lorenzo comes up with a sword, and Polizano got him into the sacristy and dogged the bronze doors. 80 people were executed by Lorenzo or by lynchings.  The guy that is credited with saving his life, Angelo Polinzano, ... was gay and no one really snubbed him for it.  I think he had some chats with

Look What I Found!

This is a stuffed frog playing a wooden violin, if you can dig that.   I think this is macabre. Mocked in death. These are pretty well done for what they are.  I am thinking that I should burn them now that I have their pictures.  Just last week I bought an excellent boar's skull with tusks all a'grinning.  The skull is for a 6-foot shaft in my garden. How could I go wrong? Photos by - steve @_livingdog - Instagram Here is a site that talks about frog mass murder: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/froggyland

Buffalo Wallow

This is Billy Dixon.  Within the space of three months, this guy pulled off two back to back stunts in the Indian Wars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Battle_of_Adobe_Walls This excellent painting is by Joe Grandee of the Comanche charging the post.  These clothes just kick ass! This is Adobe Walls in 1975, and what it looks like today. On the third day of the fight, a group of warriors were overlooking the beleaguered trading post, and Billy tried his luck.  Probably using a Sharps .50-110, a lot of round, he took a shot at the Comanche from 1353 yards away.  .87 of a mile.  Clocked. The bullet had to fall 26 feet to hit the target.  On of the warriors was knocked of his horse.  He wasn't killed, but this Ghost Shirt bullshit was clearly not working. Picture by Bob Boze Bell. This is a .50 Sharps.  He always said that it was a lucky shot but that is only partly true.  Found in a Kiowa ledg

I Hate Yardwork 2

So I finished this although I posted it and was going to just leave it that way.  I got to the coffee shop today and was working on my new way of drawing smaller and more interesting characters when I gave up and finished this.  Sorta. I draw the same way over and over.  If I had stuck to my idea about sequential storytelling my art might have sucked but I can pull good stories out of thing air! I hope your Sunday is going just as well!

Yanked Off Of Inkbunny

Image
This is a "Lancejakk Marauder" by Jacob Mace.  Almost 6 years ago I wrote to him and told him this is an excellent example of comic book art.  He thanked me and that is the last I heard from him.  I guess he is not on the site anymore.  I sure would like to see more of this.  This is the page- https://inkbunny.net/s/298553 And here is his Inkbunny page- https://inkbunny.net/gallery/JacobMace/1/98d7c69642 .  As always, the owner of said art has all control over it and can order it removed from this site. But I hope I can keep this up!

Steve Ditko

Image
When I was a young teen and starting to read comics again, these early Dr. Strange stories were in reprint.  To say the least I thought this was as good as graphic art gets. His art was so smoothly rendered, and it always looked to me like he sorta drew this as he went along.  Odd that a guy with such a basic style created these mystic masterpieces.   How could a 15 year old not read this?  The Dread Dormammu is one of Marvel's better villains and completely evil.  He was always pointing at something or shaking his fist. See what I mean? Again with the recriminations.  This guy needs to smoke a joint and chillax. Two old friends surprised by the co-incidence.  No wonder they did not recognize each other at first! I never heard of this before a couple three years ago.  Mr. A sees no shade of right or wrong.  A = A.  Steve Ditko was an Objectionist. "Objectivism is fully s

Fireworks

Here I look at the camera during the fireworks show.  The road behind me was covered with cars.  People get here hours early for a good view.  This is the first time I have seen the Rockport 4th from a porch.  Usually my brother and I are drinking beer and smoking dope on the road, only further south.  Rockport does this twice a year, the New Year's show is just as good.  They must spend a great deal of money on this and I think it is a very good idea.  If only there was a band.   Nothing says Happy Birthday USA like Sousa.
