Woodsboro

Image
This is my sister's dog, Pearl.  I got her from an irresponsible neighbor next to the pasture I used to live in.  That is my dad behind her.  She is a very sweet dog.  Dad is a very good man.  He is failing a bit but we all love him more than life itself. I am thinking of buying this house out in Woodsboro, Tx.  There is a cattle ranch to the immediate front, and it sits upon 4 lots.  Woodsboro is about 30 miles away and it sits in the middle of endless cotton trees.  Cotton trees.  You would think that I would proofread these things.  Cotton fields, and they are endless.  Fuck.  This is the poor side of town. This house is real old.  Notice the tree toppled by the hurricane but not a shingle out of place on the building. The front. Porch and shed. You just have to have a wooden porch for the perfect rural guitar practice.  I think the house would look good in green and yellow. Not exactly a g

Three For Fun!

Image
My brother took this at the barbershop today.  Behold the three stages of man!  Notice the word over the older man's head.  This is an outstanding photo. The angel of death looking at his watch is just out of the picture. Steve also sent me these which I will use to flesh out this post.  " Flesh out". .  If only I had meant to write that!  This lurid painting is almost certainly a Fantomas cover.  No, Google images says The Shadow.  It does have that pulp look, but I cannot find it.  So Fantomas it remains. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fant%C3%B4mas Fay Spain. Died of cancer at fifty.  Played amoral temptresses in mostly grade Z movies, but is best known for the part of Mrs. Hyman Roth in the Godfather part II.  Hot stuff! My brother's stuff is on Instagram  @-stevedavis.

The Kingmaker

Image
This morning I corrected this drawing.  I decided to leave the vertical lettering as it is and maintain that I meant it to look this way.  I am leaving the original post up as a reminder of the uncertainties of talent, the miss-steps of ambition, and the eventual destination of all paths of glory. Orate Pro Anima Hamilton Tighe! I have been reading Paul Murray Kendall's brilliant biography of Richard Neville, aka Warwick the Kingmaker. What a busy man this was! The general consensus among historians is that he overreached himself and died as a result of ambition, but in my opinion he could do nothing else.  He was riding the tiger and could not get off.  Even had he tried to retire to his extensive estates and live the life of a wealthy lord, he would never have been allowed peace.  The moment he laid down his arms his many enemies would converge from all sides.  He died the way he lived, always striving for more.  I am including the Wikipedia refere

Remembrance

Image
I hope you have turkey in Heaven, darling Tiger.  May you bask in the love of God as you deserve. Au Revoir. For those who wonder what this is about: https://misterscribbles.blogspot.com/2015/09/justice-for-tiger.html This is about murder.

Club Zero Blue

Image
Kobe and Zume These guys are by Luka, the best artist for male strength and grace in the Furry world.  However, he is rumored to be dead.  Supposedly he was a hockey player who got kicked off the ice.  Anyway, all his stuff is old and I can't find anything new.  He tells the story of Club Zero Blue, an orbiting nightclub which also seems to be the first line of defense from some sort of broadcast energy of a malevolent nature. "Pornographic" best describes Luka's artwork. Meet Zume, bouncer and kinetically enhanced er,...wolf.  He is all kinds of a badass and does not deal well with non-compliance.  These two wolves are extremely tough, fast, and strong.  The economics of an orbiting dance club are never explained.  His men are an outstanding blend of grace and strength.  I would love to look like the white cat above including the tail.  So many people do not realize that muscle alone does not make one look good or even athletic.

Last Night's Dream

Image
(Horrible drawing even for me removed). More like early this morning.  I kept waking up after a series of terrifying or shameful dreams, disturbing my cats and getting twisted in the blankets.  About five I drifted off, and I dreamed I was at a beach party with three friends, all long dead.  That is all I remember about it.  The dream that was the worst last night was one in which I murdered my wife and was waiting to get caught for it.  The wife in the dream was not my real one, I could care less about her.  In this dream I left a candle going upstairs while I turned the gas on in the house.  It was terrifying because I did not know I was asleep and I couldn't believe I had done something so cruel and easily discovered.  All I can do to explain that was that I had been thinking of Scott Peterson and how he must have felt as he lied to everyone about killing his wife. This drawing is sub-standard, again, but I am in a slump.  I don't even know why I bother to

More Moon Rabbits

Image
I have no idea who did this.  This is probably from some book for kids, 1900-20.  Update! This is from Belgian Fairy Tales by William Eliot Griffis.  He was an extensive traveler and helped modernize education in Japan.  Here are two of his medals bestowed by the Japanese Government. On second thought, both these look exactly alike except for the ribbon so here is the higher honor-  Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. Wild that on a post dealing with the moon I include a Rising Sun!  But I doubt that would affect this guy- Usagi Yojimbo with Moon, Gen, and Kitsune.  The Japanese rabbit!  And next, from India, the Rabbit on the Moon, Buddhist style- http://www.weingartdesign.com/TMaS/Stories/tmas1-RabbitonMoon.html This is a man who claims to have a new way to look at movies, mythology, and gender. Ha Ha!  Great drawing. A bento for the Jade Rabbit festival. This is by the very talent

Rapid T. Rabbit

Image
Rapid Transit Rabbit. https://youtu.be/qyDC53UvCCc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid_T._Rabbit_and_Friends With a friend. Richard Concepcion, aka Rapid T. Rabbit.  1957-2017. (I think this guy is a furry)! Well, I never watched this although it has been running since '83.  A lot of people are going to miss this guy.  I have no idea who did this picture but it sure is sincere.  I can find absolutely nothing on Mr. Concepcion, nothing.  His tribute page is a mess and of no help.  The new homepage The Rabbit Hole is under construction, but the old version is of no use either.  You would think that someone this well known would at least have a bio out there.  Imagine, a public access show that became so successful.  This is a tremendous achievement and really shows that determination and ability can pay off.  I wonder if the show made money? So long, Rapid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr4bKXUbhwc

The Evening News

Image
I was cooking chili and watching "Justified" with my brother and dad when this firetruck raced by and stopped at the end of our street.  This is the second one that came by, and there was a third.  Only about a hundred yards away, and the houses down there were crushed by the hurricane.  Steve took this pic of me and the truck.  That is Little Bay in the background.  The chili was outstanding. I bought one of these for two dollars today.  After some time on the net, I find out it is a 1962 Kay Vanguard electric solid body.  This is quite a find.  I don't know whether to refinish it or just get it working.  It is missing the truss rod cover and someone painted the top a while back.  Some people like their vintage guitars all fucked up, I do not.  Well, I ain't out more than two bucks!

Going Postal!

Image
I have just discovered Terry Prachett.  Actually rediscovered, about 30 years ago I read a hilarious book entitled Good Omens by Prachett and Neal Gaiman, the great fantasy writer.  I could never remember the name of this as I wanted very badly to read it again.  I have just finished Going Postal, about the con-man Moist Von Lipwig, who is assigned to re-animate the moribund post office of Ankh-Morpork, the chief city of Discworld.  Last night I finished Snuff, and today I started on Raising Steam, also with von Lipwig. Richard Coyle as Von Lipwig.  That is the immortal Andrew Sachs as Groat to his right.  And yes, that is Pump, a golem, in the back. David Suchet as Reacher Gilt.  He owns the clacks, complex semaphore towers that now dominate communication on DiscWorld.  DiscWorld is a flat world riding on the back of a giant turtle. Charles Dance as Lord Vetinari, the corrupt and able tyrant of Ankh-Morpork. Angua Von Ub
