The Rabbit Who Would Be King

Image
This started off as a picture of Cesare Borgia, who I admire.  Well, I got the all or nothing part right. Cesare, late of the College of Cardinals, explains things to some hired assassins who are not up to the job.  Presented in BunnyVision.

Aesop Got It All Wrong

It was never a race.  The tortoise has a very long way to go, and the rabbit only has a short journey, like all rabbits.  It's not like Billy has to be anywhere.  Here these two friends are about to have dinner together. This friendly reptile will always remember his bunny companion.  They make a perfect team.  They both love carrots and other roots, and this rabbit is one of the world's great scavengers.  When Billy died the tortoise thought his heart would break.  But time will heal all, and there are plenty of rabbits ahead! Oh, yeah.  Past, present, and future tense are all one to me.  I am unstuck in time. AUCKLAND, MAY 19 1965.  A TURTLE WHICH EXPLORER CAPTAIN COOK GAVE TO THE KING OF TONGA IN 1777 DIED YESTERDAY. IT WAS NEARLY 200 YEARS OLD. THE ANIMAL, CALLED TU’IMALILA, DIED AT THE ROYAL PALACE GROUND IN THE TONGAN CAPITAL OF NUKU, ALOFA. THE PEOPLE OF TONGA REGARDED THE ANIMAL AS A CHIEF AND SPECIAL KEEPERS WERE APPOINTED TO LOOK AFTER IT. IT WAS BLI

The Strangest Thing I Own

About 2002, I found this small terra-cotta and glazed "thing" in a thrift store.  It was in the toy section and cost me a dollar and seven cents.  The more I looked at it the more I became convinced it is something special.  Whether it is valuable or not is besides the point.  I even went to the University of Texas at Austin and tried to find someone who could point me in the right direction but that was a waste of time.  There was someone there without a doubt who could have told me exactly what I wanted to know but I could not find them that day.  Here it is- If this is a toy it is very strange.  This is a two headed horse with grid patterns over its body.  The stylized rider is on a stylized saddle.  The rider reminds me of things I have seen from Ur.  There were no horses in the Meso-American cultures so that rules all those out.  And yes, I know there is a telephone pole sticking out of the head, a compositional sin.    Could it be illustrating a s

An Interlude

Such lovely rabbit drawings.  The handsome male bunny varies which foot he has lost, incroyable! The French overthrow the Beast.  This superior comic has never seen distribution in the U.S.  It may be available, but it is expensive.  I see M. Calvo has saved the best anthro animal of all for his country!  From The Beast Is Dead, 1946.   Such poor manners. Patamousse est un jeune lapin qui, après le lycée, devient explorateur puis détective. I hope that clears things up for everybody! (Patamousse is a young rabbit who, after High School, becomes an explorer and a detective.  I cannot tell if this means after school ends for the day or after he graduates). This guy is really good. Really good. This is from something he did about automobiles.  I am having hell finding much on this man and his work, and what I do find is in French.   (Aha)!  This is called The Adventures of Rosalie.  The artwork is beyond

With A Heavy Heart

Some of my carved wooden things, mostly animals. 3 of these are made from soapstone or something.  The ears sticking up are those of a jackalmorph.  Japanese dolls, stone turtle, African comb.  African head.  Lion.  Cat and dog.  Two things that look like salt and pepper shakers that aren't, damnme if I know what they are.  The word "tourist" comes to mind.  I am going to put them all on E-bay.  I have two sets of Ubangi spoon and forks, and three camels.  Mocked in death.  These are stuffed frogs with musical instruments.  I really should burn them, but I ain't gonna. Mischa, aka Meemee, the world's most adorable mean little cat.  NFS. Beau, or Bobo, quite over his ringworm and almost a cat now.  He is a darling! Someone went through a lot of trouble to carve the coathanger in the shape of a cougar.  I may have paid a dollar for it. Anteater, hardwood monkey,
