Well, I Got My House

Image
Four lots next to each other.  Everything to the treeline is mine.    To say the least, I have some work to do.  But just look at that front porch! That's a real guitar practice stage if ever I saw one.  Fortunately I treasure my own company and have several shortwave radios.  This is feral hog country so I may have to obtain a heavy rifle. Y'all come back now, y'hear?

Der Wilde Jagde

The Wild Hunt, Franz Von Stuck, 1889. This is a European tradition of demons, lost souls, or the dead in a wild ride that presages disaster, war, or plague.  Many Gods have been identified with this, but that is Wotan out front.  Does this remind anyone of someone who was born in 1889? Food for thought.

The Ship That Sailed To Mars

William Timlin. Too fucking hip. Most of his first edition of 2000 burned up in a fire in London. Incroyable. I am a real fan of illustration and fantasy writing, and I have never heard of this guy. This argues architectural training.  He designed the Kimblerley Boy's School. Died in South Africa, 1944, age 51.  Oh, my, that is far too young. Kimberley Boy's School. Garth Williams, A Mortal, Believe It Or Not

This is as fine a drawing as I have ever seen.  After reading about Alabama and Mr. William's book on the black and white rabbits, I started looking at more of his stuff.  His use of color and shading in this makes me want to burn my art supplies.  Perhaps I will throw my guitars in with them! https://misterscribbles.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-rabbits-wedding.html?view=mosaic   The 3 little kittens, lost their mittens, and they began to cry Oh, momma dear, look here look here Oh, I want to hug these kitties! Garth Montgomery Williams. 1922-1996.

Pergamene

Image
My brother Graffo did this last night.  He insists that it is a palimpsest.  I say it has to be scraped or washed so the underwriting, or scripto inferior, does not show.  When papyrus was used, the page was washed.  Vellum, or pergamene, was scraped.  Pergamene is from Pergamon, where the best Vellum was made. Pergamon's king left his land to the Romans, who immediately plundered it with taxes, confiscations, and theft.  Pontus was right next door, and Mithridates fought Rome all his life.  He also poisoned his mother and just about everyone else.  He built up his tolerance to poison so much he was unable to kill himself with it when the jig was finally up. Anyway, my brother says he has an art degree and that I should shut up.  As if!   steve @_livingdog - Instagram
