All Life Void & Meeningless

Image
As you drive into Aransas Pass from Rockport on the old 35 highway, there is this hateful, nasty old man who stands out every day with his, er... message.  My brother got this picture yesterday, normally these signs are unreadable from 10 feet away, never mind while driving past at 40 miles an hour.  Here we can see that mindless fury and laughable ignorance are not exclusive to the Klan, although the reasoning and the orthography is probably par for the course.  I mean, this vicious, bearded example of the best this country has to offer must get up at five to take his station, I don't know if his sign changes or not, I have never been able to read it.  Make no mistake, we are witnessing a new order of intelligence! God is an incestial God who inbreeds humans.  It is better to be a queer than Inbreed. I need to get a picture of the guy, he makes Popeye look like the young Michael Biehn.      An man and his signs, the v...

Ability!

Dateline, Cesena, December 26 1502.  Duke Valentinois, Cesare Borgia, puts a brutal but loyal associate in charge of his new lands of the Romagna.  Ramiro de Lorca quickly earns the hatred and contempt of everyone there.  The day after Chrismas, the duke rides in and exclaims, 'I wanted my sheep shorn, not flayed'!  He even bothered to charge Ramiro with plotting against him, Cesare was nothing if not law abiding.*  He then executes Ramiro, puts his head on a pike, and displays the block, body and head in the town square.  Now beloved by his subjects, Cesare is the darling of the hour and no doubt jacked up the taxes at the same time. Machiavelli, who is dumbstruck by admiration concerning this, states that Ramiro was cut in two pieces with a block of wood displayed next to him.  This is rather vague, so I am going with an executioner's block, I feel sure there was one handy, and a beheading.  He may have been cut in half, these Italians...

Joseph Wright Of Derby

Image
An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump, 1768 The central figure stares out at us, will he save the bird by letting in air or will it die?  If he saves it the bird will live but all knowledge is lost, and with it civilization.  It is up to us to make that decision.  The man with the watch has been speculatively identified as Erasmus Darwin, but Wright never gave the names of his models.  The full moon is a reference to the Lunar Society. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Society_of_Birmingham   The couple at the left are only interested in each other.  The boy on the right by the window and birdcage may be alluding to this: The Reward Of Cruelty, 1751 Tom Nero getting anatomized after killing his pregnant girlfriend.  The man in the left background is pointing at the skeleton of James Field in a none too subtle reminder of the reward for fucking up, and the aforementioned boy in the air pump pic may be a visual quote from this...

Bookplate.  Pretty fuckin' cool, if you ask me. Bookplate. Bookplate. Bookplate. This artist seems to have been a touch overheated. Bookplate. Bookplate. Salome. Bookplate for Jack Dempsey.  You learn something new every day, like Jack could and did read. Very nice, whatever is going on here. Salome. Old Age - 'Boo'! Salome. Bookplate. Bookplate. Bookplate. Bookplate.  I think by now you are getting the idea. Yeah, right.  It is not the shape but the material, that thing is solid gold.  Pathetic male self delusion on parade. Bruce Gilden

Image
New York, 1970's. Mardi Gras. Bruce was born in Brooklyn. Haiti. Fat Tuesday. Haiti.  I imagine this was done with a machete.  Ton-ton Macoute means Uncle Gunnysack, the better to haul you away with. Coney Island. Photo for the Drykorn Campaign.   Jeez, Louise! Two very opposite things. God made man in his own image. Camus has nothing on Gilden. Who doesn't enjoy a trip to Walmart? This guy takes some really good pictures. Himself. https://pro.magnumphotos.com/C.aspx?VP3=CMS3&VF=MAGO31_10_VForm&ERID=24KL53ZS6V

Gone Forever

Image
Although on the surface Billy is carefree and flamboyant, he seethes with anger at his family.  Billy is a very proud and tough bunny, and he is furious that no one realized that until things had gone too far.  Names have been called, words exchanged.  His once adored older brother Johnny begs him to come to a funeral, to put aside his rage for just awhile.  The big rabbit thinks that his heart is going to break.  Billy is having none of it, and these two will never meet again.  That chapter is closed and there is no going back.   Ever.
