Arrogance And Greed
I left the bird center where I have lived and worked since April 2023. I have never had a job that I disliked more. The owner is the most demanding person I have ever met, she must have everything free and has no shame about constantly nagging someone to get what she wants. She doesn't miss any meals, very obviously. She wouldn't buy a lawnmower of any effectiveness, the one new one she got wore out in 4 months as it was designed for postage stamp sized suburban lawns. When I took the job I needed a place to live as our house was going to be sold, when it became apparent that it wouldn't be sold for some time I had no motivation to stay at the center. In December I was informed that I would not get my pittance of pay anymore, I quit. My boss was angry that I left a week early although I worked for five weeks unpaid. Very little I did met with gratitude, and I was insulted twice about my job performance. I have never had someone complain about my work ethic before. This woman spent 70,000 dollars on a yurt, you read that right, made of wood and fabric. She must have been counting on no hurricanes, when we thought one was going to hit last year she packed up all the birds and ran to San Antonio at the cost of God knows how much money, she had to pay for hotel rooms for all the staff. I stayed, of course, a Category One 'cane is nothing. She then installed a shipping container and generator as a shelter, it is not going to work as desired but no point in bringing that up. I have never met with such a group of dull people before, older women that believe they are making a difference saving a few hundred birds a year. There is something wrong with a person that identifies with the living remnants of the dinosaurs.
The above picture is a duck I took in, it was alive and I had to euthanize it. How the poor thing lived as long as it did with the damage it had I have no idea, but those wounds were healed up. It may have been shot. That's all I got to say about my former job.
