Eclipse

Fragment of the Astronomical Diary, year 14 of Alexander, month two, Aiiaru.  This record was kept by the officials of the Esagila temple complex of Babylon.  It is the only known contemporary account of the death of Alexander.  323 BCE.

"The King died.  Clouds".

While we saw nothing of the eclipse yesterday, I spent the time thinking of the importance of such events.  That these were predictable thousands of years ago just demonstrates how much history we will probably never know.  A clerk mentions the King's death, and then writes that it was cloudy.

No loss.  We have had more than our share of delusional mass murderers since.
