It's The Truth, It's Actch'll!
In 1949 Song of the South was released by Disney, it won Academy Awards for the song Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and for actor James Baskett, the first black man to get the award. The movie gave voice work to many black actors and is a masterpiece of regionalism as well as a showcase for the fantastic stories and animation which brought Joel Chandler Harris' collection of folk tales to life.
Walt Disney lobbied for Baskett to get the Oscar, and the artwork in it was designed by Bill Peet, one of the studio greats. The boy Johnny was played by the tragic Bobby Driscoll, who also had an Oscar.

One of the lies told about Walt Disney is that he was a racist. Today, as Disney descends into madness and continues to alienate the very people who paid to see it's movies and built the studio into the entertainment giant it is, they have decided that Song of the South is unfit for the American people and are closing the popular ride built around the movie. Disney has doubled down on pushing sickness and perversion as desirable and normal, totally betraying the vision of the man who took such tremendous risks against huge odds to make his dream a reality. Walt had his flaws, certainly, but advocating deviancy was not one of them, to put it mildly.
We here in
flyover country will vote with our wallets, and using perverts and
lunatics to sell product will turn out to be the biggest mistake these
big companies like Disney have ever made. I have never liked Disney
other than when I was a child, sappy movies with predictable singing and
dancing is not my cup of tea. I am particularly irritated that they
mangled my favorite book, The Black Cauldron, and I was delighted that
the project damn near killed off that studio. I suspect Disney is too
big to fail, but all of this will expose them for the fools that they
are and show the world the rot within and the arrogance without.
