Billy Is Sad Today

Image
Some drawings, like some days, are just fucked up from the start.  Mene mene tekel upharsin. Billy has been weighed in the balance and found wanting, but he has no kingdom to divide between the Medes or the Persians or anyone else.  Huge surprise there, huh?

Another Sunday

Image
I awoke in the cat's bedroom last night, upstairs and next to the good bedroom.  The good bedroom is not that great for sleeping, it overlooks the intersection of two well traveled streets and has several large windows.  This makes for early rising, anathema to me.  Currently it is empty except for a few dead bugs and some books.  Most of the house is now empty, my parents have moved out and I am there until I can get my house in Woodsboro electrified.   The cat's bedroom is the middle upstairs bedroom, still equipped with a double bed, bookshelves, and piles of cloth.  Meemee likes to sleep there and there is a window overlooking the golf course that she watches the lizards from, a look of wonder on her murderous face.  I adore cats, both as pets and as a liaison to the powers of darkness.  Evil against evil.  I refer, of course, to Pazuzu. Jamie Hewlett, artist. The Gorillaz version of Pazuzu, more in keeping with my o...

The Celebrated Living Dog, Preferred Over Dead Lions

Image
A saguaro yearns, for hope overrides all physics, all reality.  What is life without a dream, anyway?  This is the equivalent of John Merrick's dressing case.  200 years in the same spot.  Imagine how insane the idea of travel is to a 6 ton cactus!  Like Thurber's moth trying to catch the moon, eventually he thought he had caught it and got great satisfaction in the memory.  As an elderly succulent this behemoth will astonish those around him with his tales of the cities of Man.  There is a generation of young, frustrated saguaro in the making. This is by my brother.  He has changed his Instagram address to @_livingdog.  Fittingly enough, for I am a dead rabbit. https://observer.com/2003/01/breaking-the-code-of-new-yorks-gangs/ William Harnett, 1848 -92. Another "livingdog" example.  Here I am trying to develop cartooning skills and he was born with 'em.  This will lead to a day of reckoning, ...

It's A Keeper!

Image
Folks pay to come to Escapeville and fish.  The bountiful Gulf of Mexico, our numerous restaurants and motels, plentiful alcohol, low crime and general live and let live attitude of law enforcement makes for a great vacation spot.  Of course the heat, humidity, poisonous flying insects, snakes, uncontrolled deer population, dopers, lowlifes, tourists, flooding, lack of nightlife or any damn thing resembling culture, and old people careening around town in new Cadillacs at 3 miles an hour can add a frisson of challenge and adversity to an otherwise rip roaring good time! Here Billy, Cousin Bobber and Rickey Rat are landing a good sized redfish.  Umm, umm, just the best catch on the gulf.  Of course in a world of talking animals there might be sentient fish but who cares?  I got the aluminum foil and fresh lemons right here!

Dealing With Cute Anthro Cartoons

Image
One of the problems with drawing in a cartoon style is there is no sex appeal there, no action, erotic elements, or overwhelming greed.  This limits the story, something that I don't worry about as I don't draw stories.  Kim Deitch made this work, but he is a genius and a great artist. Waldo is up there with worst behaved comic character of them all, what with being a re-incarnated Judas Iscariot and a cartoon cat to boot.  Here he is shown as dead from an injection of heroin, although this may be a dream sequence.  Mickey Rat by Robert Armstrong.  My first introduction to a worthless being as funny and a lifelong bad influence.  I could not recommend this more. Speaking of lifelong bad influence, Robert Crumb introduced me to the world of adorable cartoon characters in the real world.  Great art, but I suspect him of being a "problem" child in his early years, at least judging from this. It takes one to kno...

Two Unbelievable Anthro Cat Films

Image
This beyond adorable young cat in this ultra pastoral, peaceful setting is going to chase down the butterfly.  He will meet other woodland creatures when he does so.  Welcome to one of the most cold blooded movies I have ever seen.  This masterpiece is "Nine", from Monk Studio in Thailand.  Here is the link- https://youtu.be/k1ws4n7ospA You've been warned! Alleycats, by Blow Studio out of Seville.  This non-stop action piece about a circle of violence is breathtaking both in it's art and execution.  It looks to me that the United States are getting our ass handed to us animation wise.  If there are any Furries still reading my site then this is the film for you!  Oh, yeah, there is a not so subtle 'eye for an eye' reference.  If I had to avenge my father's murder I would kill anyone who got in my way.  The difference between me and Hammurabi's code is that I would not ask the government to do it for me, I think ...

Funny Bunny!

Image
Billy likes to meet people, but he feels a certain reserve, a pulling away sometimes.  So he likes to make sure he is noticed and remembered.  After all, the key to any friendship is communication.  And nothing says friendship more than a sense of humor!   Funny how few folk seem to have one, Billy observes.
