Wartime Cartoons

Nimbus Libere, a Vichy cartoon.

Il Dottor Churkill, about a Jekyll and Hyde English prime minister.

Ahi, Hitler!  A parody of Italy's only friend in the whole fucking world at the time.  Both of these are the work of Luigi Liberio Pensuti.

SuperKatt, with an incomprehensible joke about Jerry and the Jap.  Dan Gordon, who must have been having an off day.

Recruiting poster for the Italian Navy's 10th Flotilla.  Not a comic.  This is a reference to decimation as meaning destroyed completely, and not the correct usage of the term for a military punishment.  The skeleton is wearing Roman parade armor and has a rose between it's teeth, for God's sake.  There is not a boat or a drop of water in this picture.

Not that Italy has a monopoly on bad art and concept.  Behold the Sniper, Military Comics, drawn by Vernon Henkle.  May I point out what the Sniper is wearing.

Command Presence.

The basis for the notorious Van Den Vos Reynearde.

Goebbel's thought of making a film about Reynard, but the fox is so dissolute that the propaganda master decided not to use him, letting the Dutch take the heat for that.  I was unable to find a decent picture of Reynaerde so I just used some book cover I found.  Incidently, Disney felt the same way as did the good Dr. Goebbels, and transferred Reynard to the screen as Robin Hood, thereby slandering Robin, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and even King John if that can be done.

Foxes are quite dashing.  But let us remember the Soviets, for some truly awful animation:

This stinkbomb is the Results of the 12th Party Congress, 1925.

And this is to remind Russia what the fuss was all about after Stalin let Hitler damn near win the war in a few weeks.  I can't be bothered to look the name of the movie up.

Pinterest says this is vintage but I doubt it, least because the artwork is modern and very good and the price is 5 rubles.  (The Invincible Red Bear vs. The Invaders).
I searched for Russian Wartime Comic Books and this is the best of what I found.  This is apparently the closest thing to Archie Comics they had.
