Russian Competence

Image
Finnish soldier displaying the skin of a Soviet soldier near Maaselkä, on the strand of lake Seesjärvi during Continuation War on the 15th of December in 1942. Original caption: "An enemy recon patrol that was cut out of food supplies had butchered a few members of their own patrol group, and had eaten most of them." ( "Vihollisen vakoilupartio, jäätyään muonalähetyksiä vaille, oli teurastanut pari saman partion jäsentä ja syönyt niistä suurimman osan." ) hoaxeye.com/2018/09/30/story-o…   The flip side of this is that the skin is human size, and the head, hands and feet would have been chopped off as in skinning a rabbit, not to mention it is extremely unlikely Finns would mistake a moose hide for that of a human.  Verdict - Russian cannibalism.  The Finns made monkeys of the Russians during the Winter War and only lost due to the weight of the forces arrayed against them.  Martin Cruz Smith described the Russian Front in WWII as the armies of two mass...

Moxie!

Image
Anthro Moxie ad.  Moxie is a soft drink popular in New England, it is the official soda of Maine.  Our very own Andibi, a Mainer, claims that Moxie is 'leprosy in a bottle'.  He found this ad.  I found one other anthropomorphic Moxie ad- Yes, that's a clam in a housecoat.    And this is a Moxie Horsemobile.   Another Foxy Fables. Be Foxy, Drink Moxie. These people got a nerve, or plenty of moxie.

A little something from 1982.  I was fresh off of active duty, young, tough, cruel .  My dreams were not placid!

Have A Scarfolk Easter!

Image
Back in the 1970s, many people complained that the word “Easter” had been dropped from the packaging of chocolate eggs. They also claimed it was only a matter of time before other Christian Easter imagery, such as anthropomorphised cartoon chicks playing with bashful ducks or dungaree-wearing bunny rabbits, received the same treatment. The Scarfolk Confectionery Company ensured that the word “Easter” was not omitted from its products (see above, from a 1971 brochure), in fact it was printed on the packaging over 100 times with corrosive ink that burned the word into the skin of the consumer. Anyone not bearing the burn scars was deemed by the government to be "unBritish". Happy Easter from Scarfolk!   https://scarfolk.blogspot.com/

Junkwaffel

Image
Vaughn Frederic Bode, Junkwaffel # 1.  Vaughn specialized in stupid beings meeting gruesome fates. He was critical of American involvement in Vietnam.  Vaughn served in the army in the early sixties but was given a section 8 for unsuitability, huge surprise there.  He later got that upgraded to an honorable discharge. An episode from the Sunpot story, all of these creatures are doomed. Many of these stories are single page concepts. Violent death is a favorite theme. This, folks, was one strange person. Very cold.  Junkwaffel # 4.   Necron 99 from Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.  Ralph and Vaughn were friends and Wizards, his best, is heavily influenced by Bode's art.  Art by William Stout.   https://www.cca.org/blog/20110926-Bode-and-Wizards.shtml   Vaughn got the 1969 Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist largely on the strength of Cobalt 60, which appeared in a little known fanzine called Shangri L'affaires (aka Shaggy ) # 73 .    This w...

One From Vaughn Bode

Image
From Junkwaffel # 4,  January 1 1974. I've had this comic for years, this drawing is fairly straightforward for anything done by Vaughn.  At least it ain't lizards.   See what I mean?   Vaughn Frederic Bode, July 22, 1941 – July 18, 1975

For The Kingdom Of Heaven Belongs To Such As These

The Satanic Temple's statue of Baphomet, sculpted by Mark Porter. I see fur, feathers, horns, cloven hooves and reptiles here.  Anthro has a dark side, and this proves it. Suffer the little children...

Love In Plastic

Image
This is jewelry box or something that I paid a few cents for at a garage sale.  As a anthro rabbit artist and full time incompetent guitar student, I think this is just lovely.  Whoever the manufacturer is, and the word China comes to mind, they did a superb job on this. This is the very picture of love and adoration.  Of course this scene of togetherness doesn't hint at the tears to come, the arguments, accusations of infidelity, anger, breaking things - especially guitars, heavy drinking, criticism of the boy rabbit's sorry-ass job if he has one, running up obscene charges on credit cards, late night waiting up for hubby to come home from that goddamn bar where he spends all his free time with his hoodlum friends, hours on the phone whining to her mother whose advice is to dump the jerk, now , locking himself in his bun cave watching endless porn on the net cause that way at least a guy can get SOMETHING even if it's imaginary, terrible cooking, buy...

Infected Minds To Their Deaf Pillows Will Discharge Their Secrets

Beau and I were out on the bay, not fishing but just enjoying the afternoon.  I had never used this type of boat before, and it had a good outboard motor.  I was delighted to be on the water with this most excellent of cats, I was very happy to see him again.  I was petting him and rubbing his head when he put a paw on my leg and said, 'I'm cold'.  That's when I woke up and remembered my darling kitty was gone and I had been dreaming.  But I sure enjoyed seeing him again, I miss him terribly.

Our Co-op Site Hybrid Is Now Two Years Old!

Image
Here we are again, another Valentine's anniversary.  We started Hybrid February 14th, 2020.  As of this writing, we have 35,158 views.  I was aiming for 20,000 views a year, but we have been in a slump lately, I suspect that many of our readers don't know how to work the menu.  Still, 35,000 views is not to be picked at, the entire point of this effort is to get us all more attention.  Of course I am riding the coattails of our many talented people.  Virtue by association! This has all been made possible by the wildly enthusiastic Andy, who is never discouraged by 'setbacks' or 'reality'.   We have some of the best anthro artists there are on this site.    Not, of course, to beat our own drum... ...but our exceptionally high standards make us unique in the furry world.  As the card above demonstrates, there is a reason we don't allow humans!    We will never despair.   You guys mean the world to me.  I o...
