Eclectica

Cannot find the artist, judging from the clothing I would say c. 1850, France. Probably from some American religious tract, but I don't know.  Weird. Werewolf by dermoosh.  Just fucking superior. Just talk to your travel agent. Another by dermoosh.  Erased graphite. "How I Did It".  Aussie wartime photo. A MG 42 with gunner.  A high tech weapon we copied for the M60. M60.  AMF! We will let my bunny have the last word.

Tomorrow I Set Up Our On-Line Store

Image
Well, it's that time.  I have built up a truly awesome collection of desirable things, and I have now been nagged enough to get off my ass and put them in our on-line shop, which I will not name now.  I am not going to sell any of my weapons or wooden things, but everything else will go.  I am going to offer these at lower prices than eBay, much lower.  Most of these things I bought on the cheap, it is amazing what you can find if you look hard enough.   Many of these things I posted pictures of earlier in this blog, but since losing my phone I have ceased doing so.  Nearly everything I have bought will go up for sale.  I have been doing this for over 25 years and I hate to part with my precious, er, beloved objects.  When I worked antiques in Austin many moons ago I got to where I really like what in the trade are called "smalls".  I hated carrying furniture and I still do.  I have found some truly good bargains and ...

So Very Sad

Louis Wain, The Fire Of The Mind Ignites The Atmosphere. Louis Wain is one of my favorite artists.  His anthropomorphic cats are a delight, and I have been aware of him most of my life. But not because of his art. Louis Wain is often used as an example of a deteriorating schizophrenic.  A very well known series of drawings have been widely used to illustrate his descent into madness.   These supposedly show his increasing break with reality.  What we have not been told is that the geometric designs are intended for tiles, and have been presented out of chronologic order.  He was hospitalized, but some think he suffered from Asperger's syndrome and not adult onset schizophrenia. Wain was born with a cleft palate and a doctor told his parents not to let him go to school until age 10, why I do not know.  He would spend his days wandering around London.  He eventually attended the London School of Art.  He became a ...

Welcome To My Life

Image
The Make Believe Parade, Jan Margot, illustrated by Eloise Wilken.  1949.  This is what I did in the Marines. Mickey Rat.  I have been reading him since I was fifteen, unfortunately.  Art by Robert Armstrong. This is how Harvey Weinstein sees the world, if you wanted to know. Another by Eloise Wilkin.  I have seen her stuff my entire life. She became aware that she was not including all races so she remedied that.  Good for her.  In my furry world there are no races, only cultural and other snobberies.  But what does this and Mickey Rat have in common? The answer to the above question is that Mickey Rat is not appropriate for young American teenage boys, and neither are Little Golden Books. But my rabbit is suitable for kids of all ages!

Woodsboro

Image
This is my sister's dog, Pearl.  I got her from an irresponsible neighbor next to the pasture I used to live in.  That is my dad behind her.  She is a very sweet dog.  Dad is a very good man.  He is failing a bit but we all love him more than life itself. I am thinking of buying this house out in Woodsboro, Tx.  There is a cattle ranch to the immediate front, and it sits upon 4 lots.  Woodsboro is about 30 miles away and it sits in the middle of endless cotton trees.  Cotton trees.  You would think that I would proofread these things.  Cotton fields, and they are endless.  Fuck.  This is the poor side of town. This house is real old.  Notice the tree toppled by the hurricane but not a shingle out of place on the building. The front. Porch and shed. You just have to have a wooden porch for the perfect rural guitar practice.  I think the house...

Three For Fun!

Image
My brother took this at the barbershop today.  Behold the three stages of man!  Notice the word over the older man's head.  This is an outstanding photo. The angel of death looking at his watch is just out of the picture. Steve also sent me these which I will use to flesh out this post.  " Flesh out". .  If only I had meant to write that!  This lurid painting is almost certainly a Fantomas cover.  No, Google images says The Shadow.  It does have that pulp look, but I cannot find it.  So Fantomas it remains. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fant%C3%B4mas Fay Spain. Died of cancer at fifty.  Played amoral temptresses in mostly grade Z movies, but is best known for the part of Mrs. Hyman Roth in the Godfather part II.  Hot stuff! My brother's stuff is on Instagram  @-stevedavis.

The Kingmaker

Image
This morning I corrected this drawing.  I decided to leave the vertical lettering as it is and maintain that I meant it to look this way.  I am leaving the original post up as a reminder of the uncertainties of talent, the miss-steps of ambition, and the eventual destination of all paths of glory. Orate Pro Anima Hamilton Tighe! I have been reading Paul Murray Kendall's brilliant biography of Richard Neville, aka Warwick the Kingmaker. What a busy man this was! The general consensus among historians is that he overreached himself and died as a result of ambition, but in my opinion he could do nothing else.  He was riding the tiger and could not get off.  Even had he tried to retire to his extensive estates and live the life of a wealthy lord, he would never have been allowed peace.  The moment he laid down his arms his many enemies would converge from all sides.  He died the way he lived, always striving for more.  I am ...
