Madness

Hatemonger hill.  A Virginia house owned by the widow of Admiral Willis Kern.  That's George Lincoln Rockwell in the foreground.

Rockwell was a talented artist, a seemingly very intelligent man and a Corsair pilot.  He was a commissioned officer, trusted and relied upon.  6 months away from getting a pension, he was kicked out of the navy because of his racist talk.  He needed that money.

This was produced by the American Nazi Party newsletter, a Lincoln Rockwell creation.  The word vile is often overused, but not in this case.

It is hard to believe how he thought, and even harder to believe the things he said in public and in his writings..

This man served in World War Two and Korea.  He was handsome, talented, intelligent and very, very angry.  His parents were successful vaudevillians and he grew up knowing Fred Allen and Jack Benny, Fanny Brice and Groucho Marx, to name a few.
The man standing next to him is John Patler, née Patsalos, the party cartoonist and Rockwell's killer.

Note the name 'Lew Cor'.

His bid for Governor of Virginia.

This really happened.  His men go on a tour, only to be arrested in New Orleans, a town that knows how to deal with troublemakers.

Richard Avedon.

I was stationed not very far from here.  Oh my, this is undignified.  Dead in front of a laundromat, age 49.
(August 25, 1967.  Dominion Hills Shopping Center).

How could such an intelligent man act this way?  Let me recommend the book "Hate", by William Schmaltz.  I have corresponded with him and this is my vote for best bio of all time.   Immensely readable, superbly illustrated with photos well selected and placed.  I am not sure what, if anything, can be learned from this but it is fascinating, a look into a pathology for which there is no explanation.

Below,  J.R. "Bob" Dobbs.  Also the charismatic leader of a fringe cult.  Hmmmmm....

But sub-genius does not mean sub-par.

Portrayed by Marlon Brando, who he had attacked for his liberalism, in the show "Roots".

A quiet chat.

This awesome  poster, by a different Rockwell, shows the right enshrined in law to be as nasty as you want to be, in public, out loud.

The only racist public person other than Rockwell of any accomplishment as a man was Dr. William Pierce, and they knew each other.
I guess that today's moral is that intelligence and character have little to do with one another.
Hate knows no limits.

Rockwell's estate was valued at 257 dollars when he was killed.
