 This wonderful drawing is from 1818.  He was as good as they get.  In the music video above, the man on the right is playing a hurdy gurdy.  These people had no idea what rock and roll would have done for their lives, and speaking for the rest of the world I say that is just as well.  4 ounces of rum twice a day was plenty, just as well the limeys did not know about Benzedrine or weed.
