Lost Forever
The body of radio operator SSgt. Vernon Moore, found in 1953 by a British long range patrol deep in the Libyan desert. At the time they thought it was the body of a young Arab, not realizing that no Arab would or could be that deep in the Calanscio Sand Sea, which probably never had a human set foot there before this man died. Moore was the last survivor of the Lady B Good, he walked about 130 miles without water before dying. This photo has been forensically examined and this is certainly Moore. The other men were discovered where they had died trying to walk to the Mediterranean, not realizing they were 400 miles into the Libyan Desert. In all probability Moore's body will never be found again, the Brits had no idea where exactly they were when they buried him. All the crew rate Distinguished Flying Crosses for carrying out their duty in a no win combat situation and not giving up, and if this is Moore he rates the Medal of Honor. This guy didn't know the word quit.
The wreck. April 4, 1943. Discovered November 9, 1958.
